AFFILIATES OF F.O.L. THREATEN BOYCOTT OF WHARF DISPUTES

WELLINGTON, Sept 23
An implication that unions affiliated to tr.e federation of Labour may not allow their members tc- become Involved in future waterfront disputes unless the dispute has been placed in the hands of the Federation of Labour for settlement is contained in a 'letter which the federation has sent to the New Zealand Waterside Workers' Union.
The letter, which carries yesterday's date, was released last night by the federation for publication. It is as follows: “Now that the dispute in which ycur organisation was recently Involved has been settled I have been directed to forward to you a recommendation which was carried unanimously at a meeting of representatives of 'unions held on September 21, 1930, in the Trades Hall. Wellington. The recommendation is as follows:
"‘That this meeting of representatives of trades unions who are, or will, become involved in the present or any future strike on the waterfront, hereby recommends to the national executive of the Federation of Labour that it advise the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union tiiat affiliations of Hie New Zealand Federation of Labour are no longer prepared to allow their members to become involved in a dispute on the waterfront unless the dispute is placed in the hands of the New Zealand Federation of Labour in order that representatives of Hie trade union movement and the unions directly and Indirectly involved may hare the right to make representations In regard to their interests and views In respect of any dispute to that body which may be set up with a view to bringing about a satisfactory settlement.’
“The above recommendation was carried unanimously by 36 delegates from the following unions: Shipwrights and Boatbuilders’, Miners’, Fire-brigades-men, Stevedores’ etc., Storemen and Packers’, Tally Clerks,’ Coachworkers’, Seamen, Labourers’, British Seamen, Harbour Boards Workers’, Shop Assistants’. Gas Workers’, Engine Drivers’, Hotel Workers', Plumbers and Gasfitters', Cool Store Workers’, N.Z. Workers’ Union. E.F.C.A.. A.S.R.S.. Printing Trades Workers', Bakers and Pastrycooks’, Boilermakers’. Radio Officers'. Electrical Workers’, Cooks and Stewards' ana others.”
