(Herald Special Service)

The milc-and-a-quarter Raukawa Handicap of £I2OO and the Katihiku Handicap, to he run over seven furlongs, form the double tomorrow at the spring meeting of the Otalu Maori Racing Club. The going should be firm though not fast.

IKAPITI HACK HURDLES Full o’ Fun is in the right order. Although her hurdle I'orm is not impressive she has always raced well on this trade. Arco is reported to be fairly forward. Though above the useful class when racing in open handicaps he has no hurdle form. Brown Jester was first and second respectively in his last two efforts and was a little unlucky last week. Foxtonian is a recent steeplechase winner. Rappel was in the money on both days at Wanganui, while Bulasellc has the right condition. Garry has a recent placing.! Outside place shows may be voted toj Double Bid and Iron Duke. PUHI MAIDEN PLATE NO. 1 Last season Dexter was in the money a few times so enters calculations, but one that will be better backed will be Rounilwood, an aged grey entire by Thcio, who ran second to a good sort in Lost Treasure at Carterton the other week. The Swagger, Good News, and Construction look like possibilities. PAHIKO HACK HANDICAP Last season Bonnie King was a fair juvenile, but at the moment may be all Uic better for the race. Golden Madonna is a winner this season and when right is smart. Rev was useful last term in two-year-old events, but he has not raced since the autumn. Fortune should be ail the better for her run at Clareville. Waiford has not raced of late. Billie Girl and Wee Wings are three-year-olds and had winning form last year. Corolla won impressively at Marton. Another recent novice winner is Serenade who won at Foxton coming from well back. Happy Man, Royal Spur, and Mercury have a little form. *RAUKAWA HANDICAP CARNEGIE (4), 9.G. was fourth at Marton and it was later asked why he did not do better. The explanation was that his young rider iost his whip. DISTINCTION (1G), 8.10. ran good races on all three days at the National meeting and must be hard. IMPERIAL (7), 8.10, has no recent place form, but dressed in his best is always bard. BHUTAN (19), 8.9, won a w.f.a. race last season after running second in the Derby; leaves soon for Melbourne to contest the Cup. MASTER McGRATH (14), 8.8, seems to be at the peak of his form. GAY GORDON (8), 8.6, failed on botli days at Wanganui. BIASSED (6), 8.2, a Winter Cup winner, ran a good second over six last Saturday. CLYDE BRIDGE (12), 8.0, was placed in the recent Wairarapa County Handicap. LA MODELLE (17), 8.0, has a recent lirst and second must appeal. BATTLE STRIFE (13), 8.0, has won over this distance and recently ran twice into a place in sprint races. ANGELL (8), 7.10, had no excuses in her Marton defeat. RED RULER (2), 7.9, won all the way at Wanganui on the second day. HIGH ORDER (11), 7.8, would like it really soft; won at Otaki last May. BRIGHT SIDE (1), 7.G, faded after looking likely at Marton the other clay. GAY FELLOW (18) 7.3 the hero of the National meeting, is a light-weight with condition that might upset calculations. PUHI MAIDEN PLATE NO. 2 In his last start Homing Pigeon ran a creditable third in perhaps better company than this. Coralline might surprise and the best form of the others is credited to Castle King (placed in Australia at the end of last season, is a full brother to Casllcbrac) Professor and Lord Roberl. KATIKIKU HACK HCP. Boyhood is not fancied. Golden Madonna is also in the other hack event, but may be reserved for this leg of the double. Reception has no N.Z. form. Jolly Robin, although a winner last season was not consistent. Rusa must be given a chance. Admiral’s Choice, after his win and third at. the National meeting may be the favourite. Hadfield so far has not proved above the average. Serenade is also in the earler short hack race. Super Duke has not won a race since this time last year at Otaki. *HEMA TE AO HANDICAP Lord Manna was ninth at Marton in a similar race, but six is too short for this gelding. Nakura will be all the better for the race he had at Wanganui and must he dangerous in this held. Castlebrae won twice on the trip to Melbourne. Paddy Joe should win again before long. Veine d’Or complicates matters. If she were back to the right order she would interest backers. Arcara and Renowned both like a longer course. Newsboy is fast and the stable that shelters him and Carnegie may take the two open races. Birdmnn runs well at times. Last week Blue Skimmers was in the call turning for home at Marton but then faded out. At Awnpuni Golden Sun has been galloping impressively and he might win at his first up Alarm and Subtraction may do best of the others. TAUMANUKA HACK HCP. Cambridge the top-weight, is passed over in favour of Arvastar who was
