Govt. Staking Fate On Vote To Rearm U.K.
(10 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 6. The Prime Minister, Mr. C. R. Attlee, and his Government today decided to stake their fate on a Parliamentary vote of confidence in the nation’s new £3.400,000,000 rearmament plan. The Conservatives may counterattack with a censure motion damning the defence measures as inadequate. If defeated on the issue during next week’s emergency session of Parliament, the Labour Government would have to resign. . The Government's paper margin of seven will be cut by the absence abroad of several Ministers and Labour members.
Labour's confidence motion was framed at a Cabinet meeting today but was not published.
