WELLINGTON RUGBY REPS IMPROVE TO OUTPLAY H. BAY

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. Wellington outplayed Hawke's Bay on Saturday by 23 points to 3 to halt a disastrous run in representative Rugby this season. With the forwards binding much better after their southern tour and Buddicon, at second five-eighths, giving the backs thrust they previously lacked, the Wellington performance was a class above much they have prduced.

Their Jask was made easier by an early injury to B. Sweet, which disorganised the Bay backs. Chapman, full-back, came on as five-eighths, but was too slow in moving up.

The Wellington backs had plenty of room and made the most of this concession by- their opponents. The Bay forwards also lacked the drive that marked their play against the British Isles team and were also a long way removed in toughness from the Bay packs of the past. Getting plenty of the ball and with Bevan playing at the top of his form and throwing out. grand, long passes, the Wellington backs had a day out. All the side's five tries were scored by the wingers, Muller getting three and Jarden two. Jarden converted one. Bevan potted a goal and O'Callaghan kicked a penalty goal. ' The Bay points came from a great penalty goal from half-way by Chapman.
