REFUSE COLLECTION IN BUSINESS AREA

The Gisborne Retailers’ Associatio? JfeP asked the Gisborne Borough Council last night for information about the collection and disposal of refuse from business houses. The association stated that it was aware of labour difficulties, but it was one of the largest payers of rates. Retailers had overcome the problem by installing their own incinerators, but the practice had been stopped by the Gisborne Fire Board. The town clerk, Mr. W. M. Jenkins, said that as far as trade refuse was concerned this was not the responsibility of the council.

At the suggestion of the Mayor, Mr. N. H. Bull, the matter was referred to the council’s sanitation committee for investigation.
