Nine Killed In Ice Patrol Plane Crash
(10 a.m.) OTTAWA. Aug. 1. Nine men were killed today when an R.C.A.F. Lancaster on an ice reconnaissance crashed near a Canadian weather station in the Far North.
The crash occurred when the parachute which was being dropped became tangled in the aircraft’s tail section, throwing it out of control. Seven of those killed were members of the R.C.A.F. One was a Canadian civilian ice observer and the other was an American Weather Bureau employee.
