ABNORMALLY WET BUT WARM SYDNEY WINTER
SYDNEY, Aug. 1. Though the last two months were among the wettest June and July on record, they were also comparatively warm and last month, though midwinter, 'was completely frost free. The maximum temperature in Sydney yesterday was 70.8 degrees—nine degrees above the July average. Officials state that the abnormal conditions of heavy rain, fogs and warmth are due to a stream of warm and moist tropical air flowing in from the Northern Tasman Sea.
Some unofficial sources suggest that the filling of the normally dry Lake Eyre in Central Australia and the consequent formation of clouds due to evaporation is the principal cause of the wet season but this is scouted by the weather bureau.
