Northern Field Closed Out For Night Flights

Two aircraft were held at the Gisborne aerodrome on Tuesday night in consequence of unfavourable conditions at Ohakea, and left yesterday morning on their northbound flights. The aircraft were to have left Darton Field at 3.55 p.m. and 4.55 p.m. respectively. These flights are classified as night flights, and safety precautions for such operations include availability of alternative landing-fields.

The Whenuapai field reported good conditions, but the alternative field at Ohakea was closed out by fog. Consequently the two flights from Gisborne were postponed. Passengers on the through service from south were accommodated in Gisborne overnight, and were delivered to their destinatnios yesterday. The aircraft took off at 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. respectively, at which times Ohakea reported normal flying conditions.
