SHOULD BUY MORE GOODS FROM AUSTRALIA
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. July 26. Unless New Zealand wished to find herself "out on a limb” in the event of war, she should immediately turn to importing more goods' from Australia, said Mr. S. L. H. Edwards, president of the Auckland manufacturers’ Association, who lias returned from a business visit to Australia. "Australian businessmen iiave questioned whether Australia would be morally bound to sell New Zealand everything she wanted if we were cut off from the English market when in peacetime New Zealand prefers British to Australian goods,” said Mr. Edwards. Today Australia was producing most of the goods she required; factories and even whole industries being established rapidly. British factories were arriving in Australia with staff and plant. There was a move throughout Australian industrial unions to accept bonus and incentive systems where they had been opposed for many years. This was an encouraging sign for Australian industry as the incentive system was a modern method of increasing production.
