“BRISBANE BATTLE” RECALLED AT WELCOME TO LEAGUE TOURISTS

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 2(1. The English Rugby league tourists were accorded a Government recepiion. They were welcomed on behalf of the Government and pcoole by the Prime Minister. Mr. S. G. Holland. The Leader of the Opposition. Mr. P. Fraser., described as ‘‘utter tripe” reports of incidents in Brisbane which, he said, had led readers to believe that the people “just hissed at the sight of the tourists.”

The team's business manager. Mr. Oldrovd. replying said: “The battle of Brisbane” has been exaggerated. “It was really a battle of rights.” he continued. .‘We may have been right and we may have been wrong; anyway, it will be decided in a few months.” He added that the team had beer, pleased to go to Australia and because of the weather the members werg glad to leave.

The team manager. Mr. T. Spcdding and the captain of the team, E. Ward, also spoke.
