Two Aucklanders Take Part In Mount Morgan Reunion Week
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. July 25. A pilgrimage to a one-time canvas town in Australia where they lived as boys ended today with the return in the Monowai to Auckland of two brothers. Mr. Walter Beer, aged 70. and Mr. Albert Beer, aged (37. The brothers were the only New Zealanders to answer the call back to the mining town of Mount Morgan, near Rockhampton. Central Queensland, for a reunion of old inhabitants. “Mount Morgan week was a great success.” said Mr. Walter Beer, who is a farmer at Cambridge. “About 800 former residents joined in the eightday celebrations. My brother and I took the greetings of over (30 Aucklanders who had lived at Mount Morgan.” Mr. Albert Beer lives in Remuera. It is nearly 50 years since lie and bis brother lived at Mount Morgan. Mr. Walter Beer made the address in reply to the official welcome. lie and his wife and brother spent 10 weeks in touring Queensland. New South Wales and Victoria.
