POPPY DAY—The annual conference of the N.Z.R.S.A. in Wei inglon yesterday approved of the continuance by branches of the annual Poppy Day appeal and the administration of the proceeds on the lines of previous years. ,
?FSAL 151 VI?A CTI CAGLE. —Because it was considered the proposal at present impracticable, the N.Z. R.S.A. decided at the conference in Wellington yesterday to defer the question of making representations the Government to charter a special ship to enable next-of-kin to visit war graves overseas.—P.A. ECONOMIC WAR PENSIONS.—The question of increasing economic war pensions to meet the higher cost of living resulting from the reduction of subsidies is being investigated by the Government, it was stated in Wellington yesterday. War veterans’ allowances were raised recently, but it is believed that the more 'complex, nature of the economic pensions is the cause of the delay in their issue. ARBOR DAY.—A Gazette notice published last night says that Arbor Day will be observed this year on August 2 “and in view of the national importance of tree-planting local bodies throughout New Zealand are requested to organise suitable celebrations on that date.’’ The notice also states that where necessary on account of local climatic conditions in any district the date can be varied.—P.A. FLYING INSTRUCTORS RESIGN.— The chief instructor of the Auckland Aero Club. Mr. R. J, Prentice and an assistant instructor. Mr. J. Kay, are resigning. Both arc remaining in aviation but Mr. Prentice said yesterday their future employment could not be disclosed. Mr. Prentice has been with the club for lour years. The club is advertising both vacancies in New Zealand and Australia.P.A.
