RARE FROGS FIRST DISCOVERED IN 1943

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 23.

Photographic proof that the recently seen rare Stephen's Island frog was in fact rediscovered in 1943 was produced in Wellington today by Mr. D. Nelson who found two of the frogs while stationed on the island with a naval radar installation. The discovery, he said, was the result of some six-months searching in off-duty hours. He carried them from the mistshrouded peak on which they normally live to photograph them in the station living quarters. They quickly began to show signs of expiring in the heat of the lower altitude so he returned them to the spot where they were first sighted.
