(10 a.m.) CAPE TOWN, June 4 General Jan Smuts, stricken with pneumonia a few days after his eightieth birthdav last week, was slightly better today.

For' the first time since hS became ill, General Smuts called in members of his family who had been gathered anxiously at his farmhouse home. , An official bulletin issued by the doctors tonight said: “the pneumonic process is showing resolution and the signs of heart embarrassment are less and have responded to treatment.”
