£17,000 Each For Woodcock-Savold Title Fight
(11.30 a.m.) LONDON. June 4. More than 50,000 boxing fans will pay £BO,OOO to watch Bruce Woodcock and Lee Savold contest the 15-round world heavyweight championship at White City Stadium next Tuesday night. Each boxer will receive about £17,000 whatever the fight’s outcome. Savold is a warm favourite. Europe will recognise the victor as champion, although America may not. Ezzard Charles claims the honour since Joe Louis relinquished the crown two years ago. Should Woodcock win, he would claim for Britain- the title which Fitzsimmons lost to the United States 51 years ago. A probable sequel would be a bout with Cnarles who is at present suffering from heart trouble, or another American choice for the undisputed world title.
