Newspaper Editors To Visit United States
WELLINGTON, June 5. The American Embassy in Wellington today announced the names of two New Zealand newspaper editors who have been awarded grants which will enable them to carry out programmes of consultation and observation in the field of journalism in America. The awards, made by the United States Department of State, go to Mr. E. V. Dumbleton, managing editor of the Auckland Star, and to Mr. John Moffett, editor of the Otago Daily Times, Dunedin. Mr. Dumbleton's grant provides for a three-month stay in the United States. He expects to leave New Zealand after about one month. Mr. Moffett left New Zealand on May 30 as a member of the delegation from the New Zealand section. Empire Press Union, to the Imperial press conference in Ottawa. Canada, this month. His United States State Department award will enable him to stay over in the United States for a month following the conclusion of the Imperial press conference. The two grants were made under authority of United States Public Law 402 (Smith-Mundt Act), which provides funds for visits by overseas specialists in various fields, to travel, study, observe and consult in their professions in America. Mr. Dumbleton and Mr. Moffett hope to visit a cross-section of American newspaper interests before their return to New Zealand.
