Australia’s petrol consumption has risen only about 5 pet cent at the result of the abolition of rationing, according to the Minister of Fuel, Senator McLeay, who said *hat the increase was small despite the special demand for petrol created by the long Melbourne tram strike and heavy buying when rationing ended He claimed that the operation of the unrationed market strikingly vindicated the claim the Government had made that rationing bad outlived its usefulness.
