MRS. C. G. CORBETT
OBITUARY
The death occurred unexpectedly at the Cook Hospital yesterday of a well-known and popular Gisborne resident, Mrs. Alma Rita Catherine Corbett.
Born in Hawera, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Leslie, she received her education at the New Plymouth High School. She was a keen and proficient swimmer, and was instrumental on one occasion in saving the life of a drowning person in a rough sea.
She entered the teaching profession, and later married Mr. Clarence George Corbett, coming to live in Gisborne, where she spent the remainder of her life.
During the past 14 years Mrs. Corbett has developed Almadale, which she and her husband took over as an empty house, into the popular and efficiently-run guest house that is now well known to travellers throughout the country. She devoted all her time to bringing Almadale to the high standard it now maintains, and as its hostess she made many friends, both among New Zealanders and travellers from other countries.
She is survived by her husband, one daughter. Mrs. George Burnett, and one son, Mr. Patrick Corbett, all of Gisborne. She also leaves a brother. Wing Commander Jack Leslie. Khartoum. A service will be held in Cochrane’s chapel at 10.30 a.m. on Saturday, the funeral then leaving for the Taruheru Cemetery.
