MR. GUY HARDEN BERG. Hastings, has been appointed secretary-organiser of Greater Hastings, an organisation which was recently formed for the advancement of Hastings. DR. JEAN McCONNELL, who took up an appointment with the Health Department in Gisborne almost a year ago, has received notice of her transfer to the department’s Auckland office. She left Gisborne on Wednesday. MR. E. L. WALTON, S.M.. presided at the annual meeting of the Gisborne Licensing Committee yesterday. Other members of the committee in attendance were Messrs. .7. A. Anderson, B. G. Dudfield, J. C. Hardy, E. J. Poswillo and M. F. Robinson. MR. J. G, GREEN, district vocational guidance officer in the Department of Education, has completed a periodical itinerary of the East Coast, and returns shortly to Wellington. I-Ie has been accompanied on his visit by Miss O. D. Miles, whose special field is vocational guidance for girls.

MR. BRISCO JOHNSON has been advised that he has been successful in having conferred upon him the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology from the University aiid Academy of Brussels. Mr. Johnson is a graduate of the Phycholog.v Foundation of Great Britain, from which he holds several degrees, besides having majored in psychology. He is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. R. Johnson, Clifford Street.

MR. R. W. CHAPPELL, district officer of the Labour and Employment Department, has accepted a transfer to the Auckland office on account of a breakdown in Mrs. Chappell's health, and will leave next week to take up his new duties. During his four years' stay in Gisborne Mr. Chappell has established a Wide connection among employers and employee organisations who will deeply regret the occasion of his departure from the district.
