TRIAL IN N.Z. OF SPRINGBOK SCRUM FOR QUICK HEELING

(P.A.) AUCKLAND. April 3. Mr. J. H. Parker, manager of the All Blacks of 1949 in South Africa, told 80 delegates at a conference of coaches of the Auckland Rugby Union at Piha that the Springbok scrum should be tried in New Zealand. The conference unanimously agreed. Many famous internationals were among the coaches who assembled to discuss reasons for the decline in Auckland and New Zealand Rugby standards. The South African scrum would give New Zealand Rugby something it had lacked since the abolition of the 2-3-3 formation, a quick heel. Mr. Parker said.

Mr .E. H. Catley, the All Black hooker on the tour, demonstrated the efficiency of the South African formation.
