Food Ministry Cuts Costs And Staff

LONDON. March 31. Estimates for the Food Ministry for the coming year total about £402,000.000 —a decrease of £21,000,000 on this year’s figure. The chief decrease is in trading services. The Ministry expects to spend £1.728.000.000 on the purchase, freight and storage of food. Simultaneously with the drop in the estimates, the Ministry is pruning its staffs, from which 900 have recently ieft. These staff cuts, which will eventually total 3500, will save more than £1,000,000.
