[(10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, April 2 General D. D. Eisenhower yesterday proposed a three-point programme for stiffening the defences of the United States They call for. 1. Strengthening Alaska and its airfields against a surprise airborne attack by a permanent force of well-trained and equipped ground troops and a radar screen to detect
and warn against air forays. I. An assurance that the 48 group first-line airforce is equipped with the most modern aircraft and back-
ed up by a powerful reserve of 12 well-equipped air National Guard groups. t. Sufficient funds for the Navy to start a special anti-submarine force, including destroyers, small aircraftcarriers and other special equipment Senator Elmer Thomas, chairman of [the appropriations group, said he will support the proposals and added: “What we are doing is getting ready for war. Russia is doing the same thing but if we get ready we might be able [to prevent it. If we had not done what we have, we would have been in war long before now. Aid to Europe, the North Atlantic military pact and other moves have , the Russian leaders on their ear.”
