SEAMAN’S FALL IN HOLD PROVES FATAL

(P.A.) AUCKLAND, April 1. A member of the crew of the ship Huntingdon received fatal injuries when he fell down the hold of the ship last night. He was: Mr. Leonard Surridge, aged 22, able seaman. A number of seamen had been engaged to help clear the vessel and Mr. Surridge was assisting to unload general cargo from No. 2 hold. The unloading was completed and the slab hatches were swung over to be replaced by the winches. Mr. Surridge fell into the hold and dropped about 38ft. on to some bales of wool and dunnage. He was taken by ambulance to the Auckland Hospital, but died before he could be admitted.
