A. DAVIDSON GETS TEN WICKETS AND 157 RUNS NOT OUT

(P.A.) MASTERTON. March 31. Free scoring was seen yesterday when the Australian cricketers resumed their innings against Wairarapa. Davidson went on to an unbeaten 157 and so far as is known became the first player ever to take 10 wickets in an innings and score a century in the same match. He, Brown and Johnson all topped the century. The Australians declared at lunch with the score at GO3 for seven wickets and then dismissed Wairarapa lor 67, thereby winning by an innings and 466 runs.

The resumption yesterday was delayed by an unusual incident. Hie motor roller was on the pitch when a ball was driven from near the grandstand by an Australian loosening up. The roller passed over the ball and pressed it well into the wicket shoit of a length of the off side at the southern end. Umpires and spectators gathered while the groundsman filled the cavity. The Australian captain, Brown, patted the finishing touches before Reeves opened the bowling. The tourists’ score reached 500 in 289 minutes, the fifth hundred occupying 37 minutes. The tally of GO3 was scored in 319 minutes. Details: —
