Licensing Poll For H.B. District: Boundary Anomaly
The first poll for 22 years for (lie election of the Hawke’s liay Licensing Committee is to he held on Tuesday. One of its incidental effects will be to emphasise the boundary anomaly which incorporates Waerensa-a-Hika in a Parliamentary and licensing area which has its headquarters at Napier and in which Waercnga-a-Hika residents have no community interest whatever. The election is made necessary by the receipt of seven nominations for the five seats on the Hawke's Bay committee. The nominees are Frank Justin Adeane. Waipawa, William George Bryce Waipukurau, Henry Thomas Limbrick. Waipawa. John McCarthy, Waipukurau. William Rust. Waipawa. Frederick Roberts Smith, Otane, and James Wharmby. Waipukurau. Not Known in the North None of the seven candidates can be said to have an extensive acquaintance in the northern portion of their licensing district, and some at least are total strangers fo residents of the Waercngaa Hika area. Nevertheless, a polling place will be available in the school building at Wacronga a-llika, with the appropriate stalling. It seems likely that the cost-ner-vote in dial area will bear some re lotion to the cost-per-fish statistics of the average dry fly angler. Other polling-places in the. Herald’s circulation area comprise Frasertown. Manutuke. Muriwai. Ngatapa, Pututahi. Tiniroto. Tuai, and Wairoa. Interest in the election in those places is slight at present, but mav increase before the poll on Tuesday. Polling hours will be from 9 a.m. until 7 p m.
