NATIONAL SAVINGS ECLIPSE TARGET SUM THREE TIMES OVER

The national savings movement in the Gisborne postal district continues to expand.

Since April 1. 1949, investments total £236.Gt!2, which is more than three times the annual quota of £75,868. The weekly target of this district is £1459 and the repeated successes in oversubscribing this amount reflects the popularity of national savings as a short-dated investment.

So far tin's year 714 new national savings accounts have been opened, 200 of which were new group accounts. For the week ended March 4 deposits in the Gisborne district totalled £6654. which was £5195 more than the weekly quota of £1459. Good results were obtained at the following offices: Opotiki, £109; Ruatoria, £1611: Te Karaka. £228; Tokomnru Bay, £77; Tolaga Bay, £1087; and the Gisborne chief Post Office, £3475.

The annual quota of £2860 at Te Karaka has now been almost doubled. Each of the 11 main post offices obtained its weekly quota.
