Two Sleeping Nurses Assaulted On Lawn At Hastings Hospital
(P.A.) HASTINGS, Jan. 17. Two nurses were assaulted by an unknown assailant as they lay sleeping on the lawn near the swimming baths at the Hastings Memorial Hospital. It is not known what weapon was used to hit the girls on the head. Fortunately both escaped serious injury. For some time during the hot weather about 12 nurses have been sleeping on the Jawn round the baths. On this occasion there were only two. The night was hot and sultry. Taking a groundsheet and mattress, the nurses went at 11.15 p.m. to the lawn from their quarters, which are only about 20yds. away. Some time after 1.30 a.m. one nurse felt a sharp bump on the head and awoke to hear her companion screaming. The attacker made off.
The badly-frightened girls reported immediately to a sister. Both received medical attention. At present they are in bed in their quarters.
