MR FRASER ACCEPTS DEMOCRATIC VERDICT OF PEOPLE

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 1. “The people have given their decision. Labour has always believed in democracy, and we accept that decision with good grace.” said the Prime Minister, Mr. P. Fraser, last night. He congratulated the leader of the National Party, Mr. S, G. Holland, and his party on their success.

“Under our democracy the people have the right, without fear or interference, to give this decision through the secret ballot. “While we regret it has gone against the Labour Party, it is the will of (he people.” Labour, in opposition, -would continue to place the country first and to do iis utmost, through its internal and external policy, both to promote the welfare of the people and to protect them“We will strenuously oppose anything wc consider detrimental to the good of the people,” continued Mr. Fraser. “Conditions in the world are unsettled and, unfortunately. Great Britain is experiencing one of the most difficult periods in her history. I am sure that our people here will do their utmost to assist their kinsfolk in the old country.” Mr. Fraser said that difficult times would face Mr. Holland and his colleagues. He wished them well so long as they served the best interests of the people.
