HIGH COSTS OF HOSPITAL BUILDING
“I think it is a very wicked thing. The manner in which the cost of public building has increased is out of all reason." declared Dr. F. D. Pinfold at a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council. The council was discussing a request from the Waikato Hospital Board for approval to borrow a further 11200.000 for the Rotorua Hospital. The Mayor. Mr. H. D. Caro, who is chairman of the Waikato Hospital Board stressed the need for a new hospital at Rotorua. The present hospital was provided after the 1914-18 war and consisted of old huts joined together, he said. There 1 was insufficient room and inadequate facilities. "It is the only hospital between Hamilton and Napier for nil classes of cases." continued Mr. Caro. The hospital board thought that the new hospital was needed urgently. The estimated cost was £300.000. The amount of £IOO.OOO was covered by a previous °Mr. Caro said hospitals could not be provided at any less cost. They were essential and must be provided no matter what the cost. Now Zealand hospitals were lacking in latest equipment, especially in regard Jo X-ray. The mootin'-' gave its approval to the hosoital hoard’s request.
