FLOWER SHOW HELD AT CAPE RUNAWAY BY WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

(Herald Correspondent.) Large entries of exhibits of excellent quality provided an attractive display at the recent flower show of the Women’s Institute at Cape Runaway. The principal awards were:—Flowers: Mrs. R. Saxby, 1; Mrs. T. Brown, 2. Cooking: Mrs. J. Callaghan, 1; Mrs. S. Carlsen, 2. Sewing: Mrs. J. Callaghan, 1; Mrs. R. Kerei, 2. Preserves and Pickles: Mrs. MacDonald, 1; Mrs. S. Carlsen, 2. Vegetables: Miss M. Puha, 1; Mrs. P. Kingi and Mrs. Kerei, equal, 2. Champion Gladioli: Miss J. Wood. Champion Rose: Mrs. A. C. Griffin. Tennis Exhibition The visit to Cape Runaway of the Australian tennis professional, Dinny Pails, proved very popular, his exhibition being watched by the largest attendance seen at the courts of the Tikirau club. Visitors came from as far as Maraenui to the north and Ruatoria to the south. All senior pupils from the Apanui schools were present. The Waihau Bay tennis team captained by J. Waititi played Tikirau in an enjoyable match at the week-end. Hard even games were experienced, Tikirau winning by two sets.
