MINISTER REJECTS LAND SUBSIDY SCHEME

The Minister-of Rehabilitation, Mr. C- F. Skinner, has rejected the suggestion of the Associated Chambers of Commerce that the Government should subsidise the ex-servicemen buyer of land by an amount making up the difference between the 1942 value and the price allowed a vendor. Advice of this was received by the August council in a letter yesterday. “It is inequitable that an ex-ser-vicemen should be asked to pay more than a certain price, surely it is unreasonable to expect that the taxpayers generally should contribute to a subsidy to enable the vendor to receive a greater price.” said Mr. Skinner, “if on efficient farmer could not make it pay at, say, .£SOOO, then the vendor would hove received too much for it,” he added.
