STATE AID TO PLANS FOR HOUSING AGED
(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. Nov. 2. Private organisations, including churches, which desired (o make their own plans for the housing of the aged would receive financial aid from the Government, the Minister of , Finance, Mr. W. Nash, told an election audience last evening. The Government, he said, would find one-third of the cost as a grant and would lend one-third on condition that the organisation concerned found the other one-third before the building was completed. The Methodist Church already had a plan to spend £IOO.OOO on dwellings for the aged. Mr. Nash said. The amenities to be provided would include cafeteria and laundry provisions. Other churches, including the Roman Catholic, the Anglican and the Presbyterian, were also taking a livening interest in such schemes Government aid would also be provided for similar schemes for other beneficiaries than the aged, Mr. Nash added. For example, the University of Otago was contemplating taking advantage of the offer for the building of a new students' hostel.
