ELECTRONIC OVEN IN SHIP COOKS STEAK IN 15SECS.
LONDON, Oct. 20. The United States liner America is trying out a new electronic oven that cooks a steak in 15 seconds. “I "think it has something to do with radar,” said the head chef, Mr. Otto Bismarck, in Southampton last night, as he pulled out a juicy, sizzling steak 15 seconds after putting it in the 2140 dollar oven. “I am not too sure how it works. It sort of elecrocutes the food. 1 know this, though—it makes my job a lot easier.” Then he pushed an uncooked lobster in, and pulled it out piping hot just two minutes and 25 seconds later. “This revolutionises cooking,” he said, but added wistfully: “It will never replace the old methods altogether though. It can’t bake or boil.” If the tests are successful, the ovens will be installed in the new 60,000-ton passenger liner due to make her maiden voyage in 1952.
