HEAVY N.Z. DUTIES LIMITS DEMAND FOR AUST. WINES
((10 a.ro.) SYDNEY, Oct, 2!. There is a big market to be developed In New Zealand for Australian wines and liquers if they could get a decrease in the present prohibitive duties, said Mr. C. G. French, public relations officer for the Liquor Trade Council of Australia who returned to Sydney yesterday after a visit to the Dominion. He said that Australian white wines cost 16s 6d in New Zealand compared with 3s 6d to 6s 6d in Australia. Australian whisky was 22s 6d compared with 12s -9d in Australia. Mr. French said-he thought the shortage of liquor in New Zealand was an impediment to the tourist trade.
