Sir, —In answer lo “Mother of Four’s” plea for a definite statement regarding school raffles I trust the following will enlighten her and also those responsible for small children being given raffle tickets to sell.

It is definitely illegal for boys under 14 years and girls under .16 years of age’ to sell tickets on the streets. We in Wairoa are so concerned about the matter that the following remit was forwarded by the Wairoa W.C.T.U. to the 1949 Dominion conference: “That we deplore the ever-growing practice of young children selling art union tickets and urge that a Dominion-wide publicity campaign be instituted by the W.C.T.U. to inform parents and teachers that it is illegal for children to be given tickets tc sell.’’ It is to be hoped that tire publicity campaign will soon be instituted.
