LARGE INVESTMENT IN NATIONAL SAVINGS
Since the start of the present financial year £164,146 has been invested in national savings in the Gisborne district, as against the annual quota of £75,868. The proportionate amount of annual quota due to date is £32,098. The large amount invested to date indicates that national savings is a popular short-term investment. For the week ended September 3, deposits of national savings in the Gisborne district amounted to £4579. The chief Post Office, Gisborne, received £3057, Opotiki £95, Te Araron £lOl6. Tikitiki £24, and Tokomaru Bay £348. Since April 1, more than six times the annual quota of £384 has been invested at To Araroa. This achievement represents a district record. Each of the ll main post offices gained its weekly quota.
