More Ships Needed To Store Piled-up Meat

LONDON, Sept. 4.

The owners of a whale factory ship and a refrigerated cargo liner have been told that the craft may be needed at any moment for use for cold storage for meat.

Two refrigeration ships are already being used by the Food Ministry for this purpose. Shipping lines are urging that the store shortage problem could be eased by increasing the meat ration for a period. One shipping official, emphasising that this would avoid turn-around delays, said that ships due for dry-docking are being sent back to Australia and New Zealand.

“We cannot afford to miss new lambs for Christmas.” he said.
