PIPERS’ DELEGATES ELECT N.Z. OFFICERS

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH. Sept. 3. The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Highland Pipe Bands’ Association: Patron, Mr. C. S. Thomas (Christchurch); president. Mr. lan D. Cameron (Mauriceville); vice-president, North Island, Mr. V. J. Nicholson (Palmerston North): vice-president. South Island, Mr. \V Duncan (Timaru); deputy chairman, Mr. R. Will (Christchurch). It was decided to hold the next Dominion conference in Auckland from March 17 to 19, 1950.

After receiving 30 objections to the proposal to raise £532,000 to put trolley-buses on two tramway routes, buy necessary equipment and build accommodation for the buses, the Christchurch Tramway Board has confirmed a decision to apply to the Local Government Loans Board for sanction to borrow the amount.
