SOUTHLAND ELEVEN WIN SENIOR FINAL IN WOMEN’S HOCKEY
(P-A.) MASTERTON, Sept. 5. The _ finals in the New Zealand women's hockey championships were played on firm grounds in sunshine on Saturday afternoon before the biggest Masterton hockey crowd for 10 years. Eastern Southland beat Canterbury in the senior section by two goals to one and won the K Cup for the first time in 13 years. There was no score in the first spell D. O’Connor later scored two goals, the second being from a penalty bully. For Canterbury N. Donaldson scored.
Wairarapa convincingly defeated South Canterbury by four goals to nil in the minor tournament final and won the Mills Cup. Goals were scored by B. Ihaka (2). N. Bryant and N. O’Brien.
