UNITED (TOKOMARU) HAVE WIN IN SUB-UNIONS” MATCH

United, of Tokomaru Bay, retained the Whakarua Cup and the Awatere Banner when they defeated City, of Tikitiki, bv 11 points to seven in an inter sub-union Rugby match played in Tokomaru Bay. The visitors in the first half scored two good tries. Playing with vigour, the visiting pack dominated play in the rucks, scrums and line-outs and gained a territorial advantage throughout the first half. The City .backline looked impressive at times a'nd only a good defence kept them from crossing the line.
For most of the first half City looked a winning team and they were ably assisted by ineffectual tackling and rush stopping bv the United backline. The score at half-time was City 6, United nil.
In the second half City rarely reached the 25. High and long punting for the goal mouth was the set plan generally and this paid dividends Three tries were scored by United, one of which was converted, making the final score: United. 11, City six.
For the United forwards A. Awatere, W. Forrester. W. Isaac, P. Potae and W. Parata impressed with good allround displays. Among the backs, D. Hndfield was again outstanding. S. Kopua and L. Male also gave good support.
For City, W. Green played a good loose game being prominent in the fast rushes while Rowland. Ferris and Crawford shone in the tight.
Tries for United were scored by 8. Kopua, P. Potae and D. Hndfield, and Kooua converted one of (hem. A back and a forward scored a trv each for City. The referee was Mr. ,T. Corbett.
