The Government campaign preceding the referendum on compulsory military training was criticised by delegates to the annual Otago-Southland Synod of the Methodist Church yesterday. The following motion was passed: ‘‘That this synod views with concern certain aspects of the conduct of the recent referendum on compulsory military training, such as the expenditure of public monev in the presentation of one side of the and the unfair allocation of broadcasting facilities. The svnod believes it is the Government’s task to facilitate the fair presentation of all points of view when a national referent,.l is to be taken, rather than to adopt an openlv-partisan attitude and expresses the hope that the time-hon-oured values and methods of impartial democratic procedure will' be jealously guarded on any ‘‘similar future occasion ”
