TWO MEMBERS OF WATERFRONT INDUSTRY AUTHORITY UNDER BAN BECAUSE OF ALLEGED MISCONDUCT
(P.A.) • WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. The removal from office of Mr. H. Barnes and Mr. T, Hill as members of the Waterfront Industry Authority “because of their misconduct while members of that authority,’’ was announced last night by the Minister of Labour, Sir. A. McLagan. Their removal has effect as from today.
“The New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union has been informed that, because of ‘this misconduct, the removed members will no longer be deemed to be eligible for membershio of the Waterfront Industry Authority, or the Waterfront Industry Commission,” said the Minister.
“The Government has given consideration to' the request of the national executive of the New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union for the calling together of the Waterfront Industry Authority. “The Cabinet has decided that commission control of the waterfront industry will be continued, provided members of the union indicate by a plebiscite vote their desire for a continuation of such control and their collective undertaking to accept and abide by all the decisions of the Waterfront Industry Commission and of the Waterfront Industry Authority, subject, of course, to the right of appeal to the authority from decisions of the commission.
“The New Zealand Waterside Workers’ Union has been advised of the Government's decision and, on the necessary assurances being given, the union will be invited to submit nominations for appointment as members of Waterfront Industry Authority. Meetings of the authority can then be resumed as soon as the vacancies have been filled.”
