THEFT OF RUGBY FUNDS : GAOL TERM IMPOSED
Having pleaded guilty in the Ruatoria Magistrate’s Court to a charge of theft of £BB 11s 2d from the Waima Football Club, Titi Walker, married, Gisborne, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour when he came before the Chief Justice, Sir Humphrey O’Leary, in the Supreme Court in Gisborne yesterday.
.The prisoner had nothing to 3ay to his action and, in a statement to. the police read by His Honour, he admitted that he had no reasons for taking the money and that he had spent most of it for his own needs.
“This is not one of a single theft, but a number of them,” commented His Honour. Walker had secured the moneys while in a position of trust, which made the theft all the more serious.
