AUCKLAND PORT SWINGS INTO ACTIVITY
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 19. The port of Auckland swung’ into activity today after beingidle for seven working’ days. Two thousand watersiders, including’ 400 non-unionists, began handling about 50,000 tons of cargo in ships at the waterfront. Vessels at the wharves include 11 overseas freighters. Counting those anchored, there are 29 overseas and large coastal vessels here.
Discs offering employment to more than IGOO unionists on 11 overseas ships, nine intercolonial and large coastal vessels and several small coastal ships were displayed at the labour engagement bureau shortly before 8 a.m. today. Night overtime will be worked for the first time since June 27.
