RAIL SERVICES ON SCHEDULE AGAIN: FREIGHT PILED UP
Normal con-.Uiions on the Gis-borne-Napier section of the East Coast Main Trunk railway were re-established during the week-end with (he final clearance of the slip in a big cutting near Raupunga. Three freight trains were passec over the line on Saturday, and accumulations of outward freight were disposed of. The railcar north bound yesterday from Wellington completed its journey without incident, although in some places the line was greasy owing to light falls of debris, which maintenance men were watching. The Gisborne railway goods sheds and yards were stacked with accumulations of inward freight for local delivery. as a result of week-end arrivals. These accumulations will be disposed of within a few days, it is expected, and the railway staff at Gisborne will not be sorry to see the last of the effects of the rail dislocation which throughout the greater part of last week involved long hours of work and anxious organising.
