Clayton K.O.’s Miller In Empire Title Fight
LONDON, Aug. 11
Ronnie Clavton retained his Empire featherweight title at the Liverpool Stadium tonight by knocking out the Australian. Eddie Miller, in the twelfth round of a scheduled 15-round bout. Miller was sent to the canvas by three terrific punches, a left hook to the stomach followed quickly by a left and right, (lush on the jaw. He tried to get to his feet but was counted out as lie climbed to one knee. Miller piled up a points lead in the earlv rounds but tired quickly and Clavton took control from midway through the seventh round. Clayton, aged 26. gradually wore down Miller, aged 33, with a concentrated body attack. It was a hard-fought bout of clever boxing and scientific exchanges. It was Miller’s last fight. Clayton weighed 9st. and Miller Bst. 131 b.
Six thousand watched the contest.
