SUPPORT FOR MOTOR-CYCLISTS
Sir—l read with' satisfaction that at least “Two of the Purged” have placed a vigorous protest against the powers-that-be regarding their ostracism in a' small portion of the main road for parking purposes. Has the Borough Council the authority to close the King’s highway to those road-users that comply with all regulations, fees etc., and in some instances rates, which contribute to the upkeep and maintenance of the very services that, they are being denied? How can any local body discriminate between a man who rides a motor-cycle and who happens to be a ratepayer to one who does not? Incidentally, the question also arises that in some cases the fathers of some of these boys also contribute to the coffers of the borough. I wonder what action this by-law will have on those paternal parents! Also, with the new legislation being passed and all lha talk of being prepared for invasion, it will be these young lads with their noisy and rowdy machines that will.be asked to volunteer (or conscript) their services, which unfortunately they won’t be able to offer, until the by-law is repealed allowing them to ooeratc in Gladstone road. Why penalise youth. _ They could be engaged in other pursuits objectionable not only fo the local fathers but even to the heavy hand of the law. UTOPIA (The riding of < motor-cycles in the business area of Gladstone road is not prohibited. Because of noise parking lias been banned there but the Borough Council is to set aside special areas for that, purpose in Bright, street,.—Ed,)
