PIGEON'S MEMORIAL

LONDON. A war memorial to carrier pigeons "killed on active service” is to be opened at Worthing, Sussex. It is a bird bath and drinking pool, suggested by 69-year-old, Miss Nancy Price, who has kept homing pigeons since her childhood. She said: ”1 thought it a shame that there should be no memorial to warrior birds who saved thousands of human lives.” She told how trained.pigeons during the war had brought back messages from Europe giving details of troop movements, gun sites, anti-aircraft batteries and V-bomb emplacements. Lord Dunsany has written a poem which will be read when the memorial is unveiled.
