Palestine Mediator’s Task Ended
(11 a.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 11. The Security Council today decided to relieve Dr. Ralph Bunche acting, United States mediator from his duties in Palestine.
It was also decided to maintain only a skeleton staff of officials to supervise the armistice agreements between the Arabs and Jews.
A Soviet attempt to have all the United Nations personnel withdrawn from Palestine and leave the Arabs and Jews to settle any further disputes by themselves was defeated, only Russia and the Ukraine supporting it.
