CROWN APPEALS IN LICENSING CHARGE
IP.A.) NAPIER, Aug. 11. An appeal ha? been lodged by the Crown against the decision of the magistrate at Dannevirke on July 6 when a charge of a breach of the licensing laws was dismissed because there was no proof of alcoholic content of liquor allegedly served in an hotel after hours. Application was made to the .Chief Justice, Sir Humphrey O'Leary, in the Napier Supreme Court today by Mr. L. W. Willis for the Crown for the setting down of a fixture for the hearing of the appeal. . , , “This is obviously a very important matter, for in the meantime all hotel prosecutions are in the air and there have been varying decisions by different magistrates," said Mr. Willis. The Chief Justice deferred the application for the fixture until later in the session.
